This wine is 95% Chardonnay from Bien Nacido Vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley and 5% Chardonnay from Spanish Springs Vineyard near Pismo Beach in San Luis Obispo County. The Bien Nacido grapes came from Block 18 (the new Y Block), which was planted for us to replace the original Y Block, which had gradually succumbed to Pierce’s disease. Block 18 is directly behind the winery, and planted on gravelly, sandy river bench soil, which promotes low vigor and drains well. 2019 was a somewhat normal Harvest year, with great weather throughout the Summer and through the Harvest. Crop levels were generally slightly below normal. The Bien Nacido grapes were harvested on September September 18th at 22.7° brig, 3.39 pH and 7.1 acidity. As with all of our whites, the grapes were whole cluster pressed. Chardonnay is chilled overnight in a tank before racking “dirty”, with most of the lees, directly in to Francois Freres Burgundy barrels for fermentation and aging. We used 25% new oak, 25% one year old barrels, and the balance was neutral oak. The wine went through complete malo in the barrel, where it was aged on the lees for 9 months. The wine was bottled in June 2020. Bien Nacido consistently gives us some of our best Chardonnay grapes. This wine is completely dry, elegant and balanced. The aromas show pears, apples and hints of butter cream from the oak and malo. In the mouth it is medium bodied with racy, citrus like acidity and a clean, long finish. This wine was made using the traditional Burgundian techniquthat I’ve used since first making Chardonnay in 1982. The only thing not traditional here is the Stelvin screw cap for easy access! G. If the package is returned due to failed delivery, a twenty-five percent (25%) restocking fee will be deducted from your refund. Shipping costs will not be refunded. 

H. If the package is returned to Globuzz damaged because of failed delivery attempts or refusal of delivery, you are responsible for the full cost of the order.
